We run down to Florida for a few months every year and stay on Route 95 in Georgia close to Florida and when we return to PA we try to stay in Virginia close to Maryland on 95.

Maybe it just isn't possible to get a room that doesn't smell like a dog when staying at a pet friendly hotel.
We have always traveled with our Yorkies and have found Residence Inn & Townplace Suites to always be clean. You have to pay a non-refundable pet fee but it is well wort the money to us to know we are in a clean room. They also have kitchenettes. Good luck.
