I find it odd though it’s that way considering yorkies are so popular with the general public in terms of a pet. It’s too bad. Even when I went to the NYC specialties, I paid $25 or whatever for a reserved front row seat only to find out that practically nobody was there and all the seats were available. For whatever reason it just seems there’s a lack of interest in seeing yorkies competing in dog shows. So in a way I’m not surprised yorkies get little camera time and are often skipped over. It’s unfortunate. |
It's true, the Yorkie is a breed very popular the world 'round and everybody seems to have had one or more or has had one in their extended circle and yet in the last several generations don't generate big dog show excitement. Their history of big dog show wins back in the 20th century was fantastic. I wonder if most judges and those in the know think the breed is now unsound somehow. But it seems like the Cavaliers and many other breeds have that reputation too and yet they seem very popular to the camera at dog shows and in color commentary. Don't know, it just seems odd.
They certainly seem to show well, stand proudly, prance around and just glow in the judging process, those tiny little prick ears standing so erect, little eyes shining earnestly. My eye always searches out the wonderful Yorkie in any and every group of dogs and they always pop when I see one, even those with very poor conformation. In fact, the less fortunate-looking the Yorkie, the more my heart melts! There is something so endearing in the look and bearing of these little dogs with the huge personalities. Can't help but just melt any time I see a Yorkie!
