I feed my guy at 6AM and again at 4PM, he use to eat at 7AM and 5PM, but he changed that schedule since I am up at 4 or 5 am. He will poop almost as soon as he's finished eating which most dogs it's usually 20 to 30 minutes or more. Potty pads are ideal in nasty winter weather, my guy is adopted, his prev. owners had him outdoor and pad trained so he knows what pads are for, we're together almost 5 years, I have a pad down for him all the time for the times I have to be gone for several hours. In 5 yeras he has used the pad 3 times, he prefers to make outside and he will hold it until I come home.

At a year old he can be trained to use a pad for emergencies, they do sell something to spray on the pad so the dog will use it. I don't know what it is called, hopefully other members will chime in and offer up suggestions.
