Default Behavior change in 7-year-old yorkiepoo

It started off with his poop getting stuck in loose tail hairs. So I would wash it out for him and he'd be himself again. I lost my usual groomer a few months ago so the hair has gotten much longer so it happened a lot and i would wash it out each time. But then it got to where I could smell a poop smell even when he didn't seem to have one stuck to him. He would start hiding and act like he was embarrassed. Gradually as it happened more, he will not bounce back to his usual happy self, but keep to himself. Then he would have periods of where he would sit up and stare straight ahead with a confused look on his face, like he didn't know where he was. Now it's gotten to the point where he won't come to eat and likes to stay in a cage or under a bed. I will eventually bring his food it to him and he will sometimes eat, sometimes not. When I check his butt to see if there is anything there, it doesn't look like it but he won't let me touch him there to check it thoroughly. Now i'm worried that he won't let a groomer work on him, especially the butt. He's always been a happy dog most of the time but now seems to have an emotional problem. I'm wondering if he has a stomach issue and maybe there is slow drainage that makes him uncomfortable. He is not the tiny Yorkie type, but a Yorkie-poodle mixture and weighs around 20 pounds.
