I changed my dog's name when he was 6 years old, in fact I have changed it 2 times, once when he was 3 1/2 and again when he was 6, he is now 7 years old. It took him about 3 weeks to know what his new name was.



My kid is a rescue, I didn't like the name he had, since he was an unplanned rescue, a gift to me from my vet I had no name selected, I wanted his original name changed before I left my vet the day I took him home, since he was going to be my buddy that's what I changed it to, anyone I ran into, ppl I didn't even know were calling him Buddy, I realized that's what ppl call dogs when they don't know what it's name is, so a year after me calling him Buddy I changed it, so, actually his name has been changed 4 times.



It is harder on us when we change names, you have to be very careful to not use the old name when you have to call him fast lol.
