I think that it's to the benefit of every dog to get chipped. I'm pointing out to others who may be reading this thread that it's convenient to get it done during spaying, a dental, or whenever a dog is under anesthesia. It's not essential, but it's convenient. And it's less stressful to the dog. You can do whatever you want to with your dog. I wasn't telling you not to.
