I would never do anesthesia for just a micro chip but it is a bigger needle and can hurt that is why my vet recommends doing it when they are getting fixed and I also agree with that. You also don’t have to worry about a wiggly puppy messing up placement. Both of my boys are criers when they get their shots so it is more comfortable and better for them to have it done when they were under anesthesia.
