Bella with possible eye infection. We had Bella groomed two days ago, and today we noticed that one of her eyes was weepy and the eyelid partially closed. We got her in to the vet today, and they did some diagnostic work. They stained her eyes to make sure that she didn't have any scratches (she didn't), and prescribed a triple antibiotic ointment with a corticosteroid to treat for five days. An interesting tidbit is that you are NOT supposed to use a corticosteroid if the eye is scratched--it will cause horrible eye damage if you do. Our vet had to treat a dog that had been incorrectly treated with corticosteroids for an eye scratch by another vet. The dog's eye was really messed up. I'm glad that my vet knows the proper treatment protocols.
Bella's diagnosis is either a minor eye infection, or possible mild dryness due to excessive drying at the groomer's. Either way, she is expected to make a complete recovery. I'll update in a few days.
