I am so sorry for your loss! The decision about when to open your heart to a new little one is different for each of us, but my husband and I have found that it helps us to bring a new baby into our family very early on. Caring for a puppy which requires attention and love helps us avoid feeling completely overwhelmed by grief. Of course we still mourn our lost companion(s), but find that we are able to move through to the stage where we can share the happy memories.

We have also found that our pets have appreciated having a new friend...once the "introduction" period is over. Our little white poodle, Beau, lost two of his best friends during his time with us, but you can see him cuddled in his bed with his new brothers.

If your heart tells you that you are ready to welcome a new little one to love, I would urge you to open yourself to the possibility.
