My yorkie has a high prey drive and will take off as soon as she see's any furry creatures like squirrels or birds. As a precaution, don't let them off leash unless in a fenced in area.
The other to consider are birds of prey, depending on the size of your yorkie, they can swoop in and snatch your yorkie right up. There are quite few stories on the Internet of this happening.'
Of course I don't want you to live in fear of all the dangers but you just need to be aware that yorkies can be both predators and prey at the same time not to mention the risk of getting hit by cars.
You just have to be a little diligent when they are outside.
