I never liked crates because mine would just pee in their crate. Instead a I gate off the kitchen area. They have lots of space to play, sleep, and pee. What I did learn was I had to put multiple pee pads down as they would just pee in one general area and if I only had one pad would miss it. I also work all day so having multiple pads out helps.
When I work from home if I was to crate/gate my babies they would whine and cry the entire time. Its hard sometimes as I need to be on the computer and all they want to do is get belly rubs.
Not sure if this helps but just sharing my experience.
