If you want to risk the dams that's fine. But if you're feeding a high quality diet key words being high quality there's no need to feed puppy food. Yes dams need extra nutrition which is why you increase food intake and just let the dam eat as much as she wants towards the ending of the pregnancy. I usually free feed my dams at the end so they can eat as much as they want.
