She seemed pretty good, except for a cough and some intermittent tummy noises that were happening the previous day. It sounds almost like a stomach growl from hunger, but she’s not hungry. By vet visit day, the tummy noises were gone, and the vet wasn’t too concerned. Throughout the tummy noise day, she was happy, energetic, and ate and pooped normally. The vet put her on 10 days of amoxicillin for the cough. We are on day 6, and she’s seemed to tolerate it well.
Fast forward to this morning- the gurgles are back! She’s eating her food, just had a normal poop, and is acting like it doesn’t bother her in the slightest. She’s in my lap, chewing on her terry cloth toy and just squeaking and rumbling away. My Chihuahua would do this occasionally, and it was completely different- she would be clearly stressed and uncomfortable, and we’d give her medicine and a few days of bland food. Cookie is acting like it’s not even happening. Any advice? Could this be a food issue? She came to us on NutriSource Puppy Formula, but we are willing to switch her. Thank you all |
I doubt it's a food issue. If she is not showing any signs of distress and she is otherwise doing well on her food, I wouldn't change it until she is about one year of age. Then you can consider whether to transition her to adult Nutrisource or whether to switch her to another adult food. Since Yorkies can be picky eaters, the general policy is, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I wonder whether it's possible that she swallowed some air, either with her food or with her water, and that's causing the gurgling. Our Bella never had problems with gurgling, but on occasion, if she eats or drinks too quickly, she will burp afterwards.
