I never said they don't have to do an actual task. In fact I said that they HAVE to mitigate a disability. That they DO NOT have to do 2 tasks. Training does not have to be for a specific task. The very first seizure dog was trained for other service work but alerted to another task that he had not been trained for.
Many such dogs have alerted to seizures (along with other hidden problems) without any training for that specific task. Many dogs have never been trained for any service work but have still alerted to the problem and they are all legal services dogs because they mitigate a specific disability.
Nothing is cut and dry. There are always exceptions to every rule. Hope this helps clarify what I was saying in my other post. |
