I'll try to explain Piper's sudden aggression with visitors as succinctly as possible--for my sake as well as yours.

I hold Piper when answering door for her safety and for human convenience. When door closes, I set Piper down and guest takes a seat. More often than not, Piper is curious and friendly--to the point she'll sit or lay next to that person. BUT...on two different occasions, one with guy and one with gal, when guest begins to stand, Piper has launched at them---fast and completely unexpected. I mean she goes from calm and social to BAM, lunatic launching. The first time this happened (w/guy), she also positioned herself in front of him barking and striking at his boots as he tried to walk forward. She didn't do this with the gal because I anticipated her action and I saw a little look in Piper's eyes, but the deterrent was a quick swat on her bottom and I hated that.

I am very confused and concerned and truly need direction as to how I break her of this out-of-the-blue, zero to ninety aggressive behavior. Feel free to ask the hard questions, etc., because I am truly at a loss as to what to do or even where to start with helping Piper be her little Piper-y self in all circumstances. I am sincerely, hopefully grateful for your much-needed help.
