| Long story, sorry
Bimka, chihuahua rescued boy is 9 yo, full of happiness and life, very healthy, very positive, super hyper boy.
He was perfectly happy with absolutely no sign of any sickness, except appx 6 days or so before October 12, I smelled some poop from his mouth. I had some argument with my mom, who spent most of the time with him recently, for missing he ate poop. However, the smell dissapeared and came back and I started to worry if he needs to see a doctor. The smell was from inside, didn’t smell like from his mouth.
On October 11 evening my chihuahua stole a beef bone from big dog, and somehow ate it without me seeing it.
He felt good and happy in the evening. He slept with my mom, and according to her he was not comfortable. In the morning he went to potty in our backyard, walking OK (as seen from from cameras). Then I noticed he was acting strange, vomiting white foam, and his body clenched, and it was visible he is in pain. Then I noticed a vomiting stain on the rug next to tiny, but shark bones. When I saw that some stain were pink, I immediately took him to emergency.
Also, he smelled very bad for unknown reason that morning.
While driving in a car, he was vomited 3 time white foam, and clearly felt better after it.
We came to emergency at 8am. I left him in emergency thinking he is safe now.
I did mentioned about pink (bloody) vomit, bad smell, etc.
At 8.53am I received a call from vet. She was telling me that XRay shows his body full of bones, and she asked permission to put him on fluids, and do blood test. I agreed.
She mentioned that she want to do it first to see if bones might move and then he doesn’t need a surgery.
At appx 12pm I returned to the clinic and was shocked that my dog was still under fluids. She mentioned that he is going to have another Xray next 40 minutes to see if his body was cleaned. Also, she said his blood work is very good.
She called me at 1.06pm and said that he needs a surgery and she is worried he started to have a blood diarrea. I double checked if they cleaned his body enough and let him vomit (this it what I was thinking she is doing all the time he was there), she told me they did the best they could, and I agreed to do surgery asap, and asked if I need to come to the clinic.
She mentioned there is no needs for it, and she is going to have surgery next hour.
I came home thinking my dog is doing surgery at this moment.
However, at 2.09pm I received a call from her and she mentioned that she continue to keep him on fluid because she nervous to do surgery because he is very weak.
She also mentioned that most likely he will need to relocate to emergency service at 5pm and we agreed to meet by that time at the clinic. However, I already were super worry and called to the clinic again and asked if they do everything right….. She said he became letardic, they increased dose (don’t know what it is), and new medication (I don’t know which one), and he immediately died after.
I had a shock, and hysteria attack, because I even didn’t expect my boy can die at vet clinic.
Her med records from 10am show that laparotomy will be likely necessary, aggressive fluid therhapy as alternative. The made blood test only at 11am, after 3 !!!! hours he had been in clinic, and after 2 hours I told them to do it. Record from 1pm shows the surgery must be done. no reaction of fluid therapy. Vet written record saying she decided to continue fluid therapy, he became letardic, then alerted, and after control check up in 15 minutes they found him dead. Passed possibly from DIC, secondary to severe HGE from bones.
In my personal opinion, I do believe my dog could be saved if the surgery was done on time, and cerenia was prohibited at his case. However, I am not a vet, and might be mistaken.
The owner of the clinic supported the vet and said she did everything right, and he could have die from a surgery (anastesia). I personally think she wasted important time when the surgery must be done, and then yes, it was already risky to do it.
I will really appreciate your honest opinion. I need firstly for myself to understand clear what happened to my boy. Someone who gave the bone, is about having heart attack and feels extremely guilty. This is a tragedy for my family. He was not a pet, he was our 4 legged child. Thank you |
