Hubby and I learned a little trick last night while trying to clean out all of the excess hair that grown inbetween the pads of their paws ( I started to type feet! lol )
Pixie is NOT afraid of the clippers and will lay perfectly still while I tip her ears, boy am I lucky! but when it comes to her feet she is a pain in the ass! I mean it! Aweful! A royal pain! So I asked hubby to help. She had gotten some gummy something in the fur in one of her pads and it needed to be trimed out ASAP! I asked him to restrain her while I worked on the paw and boy, this Yorkie just shy of 3 lbs gave him a run for the money! It was a fight! I kept asking.... Are you sure your not hurting her? But I knew better, he was just holding her as still as he could without putting pressure on any vital organs. lol Well I finised one paw this way and he released her, she was as calm as can be. when I grabbed for the next paw, she did not even flinch. She layed back in hubby's arms like a baby and stared up at him and back at me, then over at the bird... she was bored. She had figured the game out. We were bigger and she had lost. She let me do the last three paws like this and even let me go back over the first one again, as it was not the best job with her yanking and squirming. When we were done she got her uasual grooming treat of dryed chicken and she was just as happy as ever to be called a pretty girl and pranced around with much better traction!
The trick for you:
He's the dog, your the human. You out weigh him by a gazillion pounds. Force the issue a couple of times and they will get the point. It does not have to me cruel or even mean, just firm and to the point. They are smarter than you think! Don't let them win the game!
