Yorkies head, face, chest, belly, legs is tan to blonde in color, although it is not unusual to see a reddish color. Their backs and tail can be light grey, dark grey, black even a mix of light, dark grey with black in it. One of my girls was pure black on the back and tail, head, face, chest, belly and legs were auburn, she stayed that color all her life, another girl was pure black on the back and tail, the rest was tan to blonde in color all her life, my other two were silver grey and tan. Coloring comes from the genetics of the parents and grandparents of both the mating male and female. The saying "dogs look like their owners" is just a joke, although I have seen many dogs that do look like their owners lol.
