Default Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth for Dogs

So...I've read up a lot on food grade diatomaceous earth for dogs over the past year but wasn't able to find it locally, until a few months ago at a pet store. It seems there are many benefits to feeding this to dogs to get rid of parasites and also to get rid of fleas by applying the powder to the skin.

I just did a quick search on YT and I guess there wasn't much support from members in the past for feeding it. But some members found it effective for getting rid of fleas.

Scottie has had this skin issue on his belly for the longest time. Actually, he had them as a puppy but it went away by the time he turned 1 year old. But then, those annoying little bumps came back! Little pimples that both the vet and I thought was a staph infection. I have a vet-prescribed ointment that soothes the skin to prevent irritation, but it doesn't cure it. Scottie also tried weeks of the antibiotics prescribed by the vet, who claimed it would heal him from it, but the little bumps still came back!

I've read that staph infections are recurring and most people haven't had much luck in getting rid of it for good. Something to do with the dog's immune system maybe? That's why I thought feeding probiotics could maybe help.

In addition, whenever we went on a short trip and did short hikes in the mountain - each time we went back home they were bound to get diarrhea (probably from something bad/foreign they ate during the hike).

So anyway...about a month ago, I took a leap and tried out the food grade DE.

I started with sprinkling a little in their pre-soaked meal. I always soak their kibble for about 5 minutes and drain the water before feeding them (it seems to help with their digestion and forms better poop for them). So, I sprinkle a little bit of DE over the wet kibble and mix it together until the powder dissolves with the moist kibble (reason being, it's not safe for humans or dogs to inhale it).

My routine is: soak the kibble, add a little drizzle of krill oil for omega 3, add a sprinkle of probiotics, add a sprinkle of DE, and then mix it all up. I think, my babies are doing well on it so far...(though it's only been a month).

Last week, we went on a trip to Whistler mountain and did a little hike. When we came home, no diarrhea (yay!). In addition, Scottie's belly has gradually cleared up over the past month. No more scabs and no more scars. I have yet to determine if it's for sure that the DE is helping. ...and the monitoring continues...
