Her chip did migrate from between her shoulder blades down her side right above her leg. The reactions are not always reported and are not as rare as I thought once I started doing research, but you are right the majority of dogs do not have a definitive reaction. She had some generalized hair thinning that we think was due to a seasonal winter thing or laying on the heater vent (she loves warmth) and triggering shedding. Melatonin cured that quickly.
And then she also had a definitive bald spot about the size of a silver dollar. Scrappings, blood tests, ointments, antibiotics and temaril-p were all tried, including a 30 day course to rule out resistant infection. But when the temaril-p was stopped, each time the hair around the chip fell out in clumps. The corticosteroid and antihistamine were just enough to suppress the reaction. We tried everything to save the chip! But constant steroids isn't a good choice.
