Mine walks on sidewalks for 3 miles at least every other day. I do not have to clip her nails, but have never seen any splitting. Once the nails are short they would probably have very little if any contact with the surface. Wondering if you come across any salt used for de-icing that may be drying the nail out? I do not think it is simply from walking on a hard surface but more likely a vitamin deficiency. If the nails are splitting that far back and he is licking you also need to worry about infection setting in. I personally think a trip to the vet might be needed. |
