We have gone over parvo in my vet assistant class several times and secondary infection never popped up. They can get dehydrated and possibly anemic depending if they have the bloody diarrhea and how much. When we went over protocol antibiotics never came up and I have never heard in other parvo cases of antibiotics being given. They normally hospitalize the patient and treat the symptoms that pop up like the dehydration, the vomiting, the diarrhea, and glucose if they seem to have a sugar issue. Then as the pup gets stronger they try a tiny bit of food. Parvo causes the dehydration and other symptoms so it is the parvo that kills them.
