The shock is too much for any dog. It is indeed cruel and it does indeed hurt. I mean, if it didn't people should test it around their own necks and see if it hurts or not(no- don't really try it because I mean it's electricity)...

I'd agree that positive reinforcement works if you do it correctly. It's how we taught Sasha (but she is a glutton so that wasn't really hard at all) all of her commands and stuff.

I suppose the help of a professional dog trainer would do wonders as well.
