I have done therapy work with my dogs for ten years. Each of the therapy groups has different requirements and different policies. I would suggest that you investigate the groups local to you. The training required is great o"on the job", but more important to me is my dogs are a pleasure at home or any where I take them. Come, sit, stay, down are, in my opinion, necessary for safety. As an example, I was outside in my fenced large yard with my Yorkie within a few feet just Friday when I heard that terrifying sound of a red tail hawk overhead. One "come" and Spencer was at my feet. If he had not obeyed and had decided it was time for catch me, my little guy might be injured or gone.

Therapy work is terrific and the dogs who do it just great pets. I know mine are!
