I am very sorry for your loss. Unless you had a necropsy done on the pups you will never know for sure and anything said here will only be conjecture. My experience with breeding is rather limited, but I have a support team of very experienced breeders to call upon when I have questions.

My two girls are both champions, I have a long standing knowledge of their ancestry. I always rely on the breeder of my bitches to select a sire because she is vastly knowledgeable and has a good understanding of the genetics and what lines compliment each other. I feel that relying on her gives me a headstart towards having healthy pups.

I always encourage pregnant bitches to be active. This helps to promote overall good health, muscle tone and appetite. During the last few weeks I do try to discourage over-exertion.
