I’m not looking for fame or fortune, I’m just doing what I love and enjoy doing –nothing brings me more pleasure than being around animals especially moms with their babies. True vets don’t know it all, and then again nor does anyone else. We can only work with what we have, and even the best of breeders don’t get it right all the time. In fact, if I’m not mistaken, wasn’t it the professional show breeders that destroyed every puppy that didn’t meet the breed standards even for something as simple as color – how sad is that – and your scared cause someone may not be breeding right – duh, think again. As for breed standards – that’s just the show people’s idea of what a breed should look like. Doll face Himalayans are not to breed standards and that is what I started with – then I thought I should do it RIGHT and invested into the SHOW quality Himalayans – biggest mistake I ever made because I went from watching beautiful little doll face Himalayans being happy and playful to watching beautiful little show Himalayans with runny eyes having trouble to breathe due to their short show face – so forget the breed standards for me I will not make that same mistake with my little dogs. I will not be docking my dog’s tails, and my breeding girls will be at least 6 –8 lbs. For those of you who don’t agree with me, guess what, I’m not asking you too, and nor is it any of your business how I choose to breed my dogs. My goal is to produce happy healthy dogs that pet owners will enjoy, not mutilated ones. I have no intentions of causing my dogs any unnecessary stress or pain to satisfy anyone’s fabricated ideal of what they think they should look like. Breeding right – according to who – that’s a Joke right!!! |
Hello. I've been following this thread and can understand the various viewpoints here and why some conflict has arisen. I think we could all agree on *way* more than we think, I really do. Which means, to me, that together we could really have a lot of the same goals when it comes to pets, breeding, animal/breed advocacy.
Even though you were a bit heated in the previous posts, I did still read a few things between the lines in there that made me pause and think you may truly be interested in doing things in a mindful / careful manner, with respect to breeding.
Then when I read the post above, I felt that confirmed. I actually think you are on the right track here in thinking for yourSELF, while still also advocating for the breed and breed's well being long term. It seems you'll still "breed to standard" -- but
not to the detriment of a breed's health - and that I support and respect. It also sounds like you may be getting into this bc you actually really love it, not for any odd type of glory using animals as a commodity.
As far as not docking tails, all I can say is: WELL DONE. Someday, my hope is that the U.S. will catch up with the rest of the world and outlaw this totally barbaric practice of amputation, which is unnecessary in every way, not to mention cruel.
I hope you'll try sticking around a bit, with an open mind. You may find there are some really wonderful, passionate, intelligent, supportive people here. If you're truly interested in ethical breeding standards, you'd be appreciated here...we know/see how rare that really is. And welcome to YT - sorry it's been a little salty. We're a rather passionate group at times, if you didn't guess that already.
