I prefer to wait until the growth plates have closed before spaying. In a Yorkie or Biewer, that probably is about eight months of age, and a simple X-ray can confirm it.

For emergencies, Animal Medical Center is excellent. They are a nonprofit organization, so I believe they are subsidized. They have over 100 vets in every specialty.
About AMC - Animal Medical Center - New York City

I go to an amazing vet in Westhampton. I have been going to him since he bought the practice over twenty years ago. Through the years. I have seen him help or cure very sick animals whose prior veterinarians gave up hope with them. I have met many patients from Manhattan, Connecticut, even Virginia, and some come as far as California. Many people have been sent there by their vets as a last resort, and he was able to help their dogs. I highly recommend the trip if you even need a second opinion other than a boarded specialty veterinarian.

I walk with my little girl at least a few miles a day,, but she is seven. Please take a look at these links about appropriate exercise for puppies. If I hadn't seen this, I, too, would have walked great distances with a puppy. This was written about bull terriers who are much larger, but I would check to see if this would be the same for a tiny dog. I'm sure the people at Puppy Culture would answer your questions.

I wish the very best of health with your baby and a lifetime filled with love, laughter, and happiness.
