Think Meds for Pancreatitis may cause it? Is Flagyl ( Metronidazole ) not advised if your dog has Pancreatitis ?
My doctor prescribed it for my dog who had a black tarry stool and a CPL that was abnormal. No other symptoms. She said her's was a mild case of pancreatitis as she had no pain, no diarrhea or vomitting. She said the tarry stool indicated bleeding in upper GI tract so she prescribed fat free diet, Pepcid, Carafate Supension and Metronidazole Suspension .
Her blood tests were normal. Bella is a picky eater so we recently introduced very lean round steak into her diet ( cooked in George Foreman and patted dry) in addition to her Pet Fresh. I thought the diet change could have caused the tarry and softer stool. So two tarry soft stools and today she had half tarry and then half regular.
I don't want to give her meds she doesn't need or that will make her sick and GIVE her pancreatitis. I did some reading on the Metronidazole ( Flagyl) on sites that say it is implicted in Pancreatitis! I gave her the 12 hour dose. Now I'm freaking out. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks. |
