Thank you for your answers guys. I called my vet to inquire their position as well. They said as long as they were fully on solid food, said approx eight weeks old. My big worry was if it would put the pup at risk for hypoglycemia at such a young age, fasting for twelve hours. If it is pretty commonly done I would be less concerned. It sounds like it is not super conclusive in general and easy to falter in correctly following the protocol.
