She was always very active, chasing lizards on the back porch until there was none left, always wanting to go out for walks, and very playful... but then all of a sudden she became the complete opposite.
A couple of weeks ago, she started walking slowly, not eating nor drinking much and sometimes vomits when she does eat, her legs are very weak, crossing each other and almost tripping herself, and she seems to be running into things right in front of her. If you hold her for more than a few seconds she starts whimpering. And tonight, (this is what sparked me to post here) she started howling in the middle of the night.
We have no clue what might have brought about this sudden change in her. She barely eats anything, and if she does, she's too weak to stand on her own so we have to hold her up. She barely drinks and her urine is a very dark yellow.
We took her to her vet about a week after the symptoms started and he said that there isn't anything that's physically wrong that he could see, and gave us some Metacam to see if that helps with anything. After reading online that dogs will howl and whine if they are in pain, I gave her a little bit of the Metacam and that seemed to help with the howling.
Has anyone experienced this with their dogs? Any ideas what might be wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated! | This is NOT normal. Not drinking enough water can dehydrate her, and could be the reason for the dark yellow urine, did your vet check her for urinary track infection? her not be able to stand on her own to eat, to ME would be a huge cause for concern. If your vet saw nothing wrong I would see another vet for a 2nd opinion or if you have a vet training school in or near you I would take her there.
