female yorkie started acting very strange Our little Misha is around 8 years old and was very active up until a couple weeks ago... She was always very active, chasing lizards on the back porch until there was none left, always wanting to go out for walks, and very playful... but then all of a sudden she became the complete opposite. A couple of weeks ago, she started walking slowly, not eating nor drinking much and sometimes vomits when she does eat, her legs are very weak, crossing each other and almost tripping herself, and she seems to be running into things right in front of her. If you hold her for more than a few seconds she starts whimpering. And tonight, (this is what sparked me to post here) she started howling in the middle of the night. We have no clue what might have brought about this sudden change in her. She barely eats anything, and if she does, she's too weak to stand on her own so we have to hold her up. She barely drinks and her urine is a very dark yellow. We took her to her vet about a week after the symptoms started and he said that there isn't anything that's physically wrong that he could see, and gave us some Metacam to see if that helps with anything. After reading online that dogs will howl and whine if they are in pain, I gave her a little bit of the Metacam and that seemed to help with the howling. Has anyone experienced this with their dogs? Any ideas what might be wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh gosh, please get this girl back to the vet ASAP bc something is most definitely wrong here. Go to a different vet if needed. Also, use your phone to get video of her stumbling and being weak.

Thanks for taking interest! Luckily the Metacam helped her sleep through the night and she is still being quiet. I'm going to take her to the vet today and maybe ask for some x-rays. Will keep you guys posted on what's happening!

The vet did another physical examination and said that x-rays weren't necessary, but he did draw blood to run some tests. He said he will call me tomorrow with the results, hopefully all clear!

Has she been tested for lymes disease? That can cause similar symptoms.

We took her to the vet. The vet recognized that aging dogs will have joint pains and that sometimes the pain and discomfort will make them lose their appetite. She got put on some painkillers to help ease her joint pains and then she was on regular joint supplements and then she was back to her normal self. Later on at 17 years, her hind legs were crossing and then soon after she lost mobility in her hind legs. Apparently it's a degenerative disease where there's not much to prevent it. But...she didn't vomit or run into things. So I'm not sure if the situations are exactly the same. Just wanted to share with you my story... Have you gotten back the vet results yet? I really hope she's doing better!
