Coughing and Gagging Hi everyone, I thought I was through with worry for a while after Alfie went through his surgery last week to remove a polyp and stone from his bladder.
He is now starting to cough and gag as if he is trying to get a hairball up. He is doing it quite a bit the last 2-3 days (well at least 3 episodes that I know of). He would have done this once in a blue moon. My husband thought it's because he is licking his feet and legs quite a bit and he is swallowing some hair. He is doing this because we can't bath him yet as he still has his stitches in and I think there is sticky stuff left behind from whatever they use during surgery.
I have also in those 2-3 days gone back to work from being on holiday for 2 weeks so I don't know if all this is related or has intubation from the surgery done something to him.
Of course I have been reading up about reverse sneezing, kennel cough and the dreaded collasping trachea. I am so worried about this now. I have to take him back in a week to get his stitches removed so will bring it up with the vet. In the meantime I will try and give him a foot and leg bath so he is not licking whatever is on him.
My rescue, Penny has a severe heart murmur and she does this coughing and gagging a good bit and done it once in the vet and all they said was oh it was due to the heart and that she may need to go on heard tablets. Nothing else. After the reading I have been doing today, I am worried it is a collasping trachea and they are just not taking it seriously. |
