I know that during the initial research stage, a huge concern is deciding between boy or girl, for dressing up etc. I considered all the same stuff too! But the truth is, Yorkies male or female can be super affectionate (I have both girl and boy, both very affectionate because they love me

). I have friends who own Yorkie boys and dress them up to be the most handsomest boys ever!
It's also true that Yorkies can be hard to train. The key is to do a lot of research and read up on training techniques ahead of time so you're prepared when your puppy arrives home. Note that even after you feel you've learned it all, you'll still need to learn by trial and error because each dog is different and there is no
one method that works. If you do your research, apply consistent training several times a day, make sure you keep cool when things get frustrating, and just have fun...then Yorkies can be a pleasure to train!
My point is, the level of difficulty in training depends more or less to you. It's not easy work. You need to have a ton of patience and more. Especially when you face challenges. You actually need to put a LOT of effort into it and you should
want to, not
have to. I find it extremely fun to train my dogs and trust me they've been bad. But I still enjoy it. So to me, it's not difficult.
To answer your original question on gender, I would suggest that you put all your effort into finding the best breeder you can find. And then whatever puppy they have available, will be the one for you! (i.e. choose breeder over choosing gender) Once you find that perfect breeder, if they happen to have a choice of girl or boy, then meet the puppies in person, and let your feelings guide you.
When I say perfect breeder, I mean find a good active show breeder. It's a
world of difference. I truly believe show dog breeders produce puppies that are easier to train - purely based on the fact that good breeders only breed dogs that have good temperaments, have been trained their whole lives, and have won competitions.
If for even one second you have doubts about a "breeder" possibly being a backyard breeder or a puppy mill, just forget it and move on - no matter how cute the puppy is or hard they're selling the puppy to you or pressuring you in any way. I could go on and on. But you get the gist
