 Newly adopted 8 year old

Im so glad i stumbled upon this forum because i am lost.
I have found Dolly (8 year old yorkie) on the street yesterday, after taking her to the humane society to find if she has a microchip and her owner, i learned that her owner gave her up cause she just gave birth and her babies are allergic. she never gave us any information but that the dog is 8 years old and goes by Dolly and shes spayed.
Now, knowing what she will go through in the shelter I immediately took her home. I have another puppy, he is a 1.5 years old cocker spaniel thats very friendly and they got along really well.
now my main problem is, I feed my cocker spaniel (Nature's Recipe dog food, chicken and rice flavor) but unfortunately this past week hes been having an upset stomach and diarrhea and so we put him on a bland diet for a couple of days. Now she gets home, started exploring, and i bring out a plate that i had and pour some dog food for her, she turns and eats the bland diet food that i had for my cocker, she ate ALLL OF IT.
My main issue is that my husband and I work and we do not have time to cook for the dogs everyday and i know that dog food is healthier for their teeth and it has more nutrients and i would rather stick to that. so i dont know how to switch her over to dog food, i have no idea what she ate before and what she likes. I tried to give her treats she WILL NOT eat them, she will just try smelling it and then look the other way which will make it very hard to train her.
she is housebroken, she knows where she needs to do her business and so far no accidents at all and she seems comfortable. she licks me all the time, sits by me and duh she devoured my dogs bland diet as soon as she walked into the house.
any suggestions for food and treats would be welcomed. Also i think she was a spoiled brat who did whatever she wanted in her older home and i need to change that, but without treats/rewards, how am i going to do that? |
