The only change has been that we go to the lake each weekend now. He loves it there and we have a runner right outside the camper for him to be outside. He will roll and play in the grass, watch the kids and other dogs and bask in the sun.

I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. I just don't know. I will get steps for him. There is no stopping him when we are asleep from jumping down. May as well make it as safe as I can. Maybe if I make a line of pee pads he will pee on one. I just wish he would wake me. Not like him at all.
I don't have any advice because mine don't sleep on my bed..but just wanted to say these little guys are geniuses! They'll only do what is easiest for them. He doesn't wanna bug you in the middle of the night, now that he learned to jump off. Instead, he's probably thinking wow...should have done this a lot earlier

Good luck with the stairs and pee pads
