We don't live in the country, but go to the parks frequently. We use Revolution monthly but when we go hiking and out in the field at a farm I slip on a seresto collar. They are expensive and I have to cut it down for her. After the tick potential visit and I have checked her out thoroughly I take it off and put it in a zip lock bag to use for the next hike. They last a long time for us.
This was my vets suggestion since we hike about 2 times a month on trails. We have not had a tick issue since using this collar in this way.
