Hycodan can go to a high dose even though most vets aren't comfy with it. I go to 3/4 pill if I need it, but knock wood he is good on 1/2 pills every 6-8 hours now. Yesterday I wasn't home so he had the dose after 9 hours and was honking. I gave him 3/4 pill and he fell asleep like a baby all night. It is not overly sedating either, our boy runs around and is very active.

I use omega 3a for inflammation and sometimes give 1/2 tsp of raw honey to smooth him.

That's what was frustrating was that she was treating the whole situation as though the inflamed throat brought on the coughing. In reality the reaction to the fragranced candles and Febreze bothered his lungs first and then the coughing started and added to the throat inflammation. They initially thought he had a soft pallet deformation bc of the swelling on his one side (tonsil). Luckily there was a specialist there that was able to look at the X-ray better. So I do understand trying to get the swelling down in the throat but she definitely should have treated the first issue which is the cough. I'm waiting to hear back from her this morning. I hope maybe there is some kind of inhaler or something he can take in pill form to relive his poor lungs. He must be so sore from coughing so long. He's not really eating. I made a purée of chicken and potato, carrots and some kibble and chicken broth and water. He licked a little of it but not a good portion. He is drinking though. Thanks again for your input. Your advice and guidance is very appreciated!
