I was feeding my boy wellness core grain free for small breeds and he was having episodes of stomach upset. He was getting a 1/4 cup twice a day (he's 6lbs) and waking up with episodes of vomitting bile early in the morning. Also after he ate he would walk around hunched over and clearly in severe pain. I took him to the vet and she suggested an over the counter acid controller. Famotidine tablets 10mg and I gave him a 1/4 tablet a day. It helped tremendously but I also stopped the food I was giving him. Since switching to natural balance limited ingredient duck formula I have not had any issues and even stopped the anti acid pills. I also mix in a little chicken and either some cooked potato, sweet potato or quinoa bc I find the extra carbs help hold him over better until his next meal. I would never have thought that a good quality dog food could be the cause of any issues... It takes some time to find the food that works best. Good luck. |
