the vet said unless she is breeding regularly, which she is not, there isn't much I can do. Unfortunately, being filthy doesn't count as "Abuse". Neither does ear mites or other non life threatening problems from being dirty. She was feeding the dogs regularly, and not giving them the proper kibble also isn't anything animal groups will interfere with and they were inside her home so minimal care is being tendered. The most I can do is write to AKC and, should she ever attempt to expand her breeding, or to get a breeder of merit, that stain in her record will most likely stop it.

Regarding the little guy, he seems to be a happy puppy now though I still haven't been able to get his stool to a firm consistency. I have been giving him a little canned pumpkin with his kibble and that has helped a bit..but only to the point that he doesn't have the runs anymore.

WyliesMom... Never thought about the vaccinations. I did have a complete panel run and he is free of Guardia, etc...he was supposed to receive his first round of shots between 6 and 8 weeks - but she didn't give him his 1st until 9 weeks. So we are a little behind on the shots But, based on what you said, that might be good thing. It's tough tho- I want to take him for walks when I walk Roxie but can't until he has all his shots and I know his immune system is strong. I also want to have him fixed and we are running a little behind with the shots so timing his shots and rabies vaccinations with fixing him before 6 months is going to be close. ( I actually would like to have him fixed at 5 months is possible, but the vet is allowing 3 weeks instead of two between shots to give the little guy a break. I just wish I could figure out why his stool is still so soft. Is that normal? We changed him to Royal Canin last sat- so it's been 8 days.

On the good side..this little sweetie can sleep for 6 or more hours at a stretch! So I am loving that. If we go to bed around 10pm- he will get me up once in the night. So we get to sleep! Feel that love! He is also getting used to his time in the playpen without crying to be let out. He's such a sweetie wit a feisty little attitude. I am glad I got him. And I only hope that bad nutrition between weaning and when I got him at 10 weeks doesn't impact him negatively.
There are two things I would like to emphasize 1) Get pet health insurance - covering genetic defects it just might be the wisest choice you will make.

2) get your puppy fully well and healthy before even considering neutering and a good time after all regular including Rabies shots are done. There is no rush to neuter if you do not have an intact female in the home.
