Cesar dog food I sent this as a complaint on Cesar's corporate site, but just thought I would post here as well to bring awareness. I hope my story will help prevent this happening to another dog!
"Around Christmas, we acquired a new yorkie. She had been in the family but then came to live with us. We had trouble getting her to eat dry dog food since she was so spoiled before with human food. So, we regularly mixed a tablespoon or 2 of Cesar food in with her dry food to get her to eat it. She has been fed like this for over 2 months. Recently, we ran out of Cesar food and it was about 2 weeks before we went and got more (she was eating the dry food better though so we weren't worried). Even though she really doesn't need the wet food mixed in anymore, we bought more anyway and continued mixing it in like we had before.
She had been puking a lot when we first got her, but we just thought her stomach may have been adjusting to having real dog food as opposed to human food. 90% of the time the puke was a yellow acid type liquid. Only rarely were there chunks of food in it.
Well we didn't quite notice at first, but now that she's had the Cesar food again for a couple days (and has started getting really sick again), we now notice that when we were out of your food for almost 2 weeks, she was not sick even once. Now she's been eating that food again for 2 days and has already puked 7 times today, as well as had 2 poops today that were half diarrhea and a little blood. Also, her last puke just had blood in it too which has never happened!
The puking and diarrhea, along with finding blood in both, makes me extremely worried. If we hadn't been out of your food for that 2 weeks, we would have just thought she's sick for some unknown reason, which is kind of what we've thought since we got her around Christmas. Now, it is plain as day what is making her so sick. I am glad we made the connection before it did worse damage to her or killed her, but I seriously suggest looking into what you're putting in this dog food. I feel horrible that we've been feeding her this for over 2 months now and wonder about the damage it has done to her. This food is not healthy at all!"
I also just want to add, I knew this was a low quality food, but since we were just using it for the "wetness" and not her main nutrition source, I wasn't worried. I never expected it to have such serious effects like this though. The dry food we were getting her to eat is a 5 star dog food (Blue Buffalo Wilderness) so I knew she was getting good nutrition. |
