I informed my husband that any rabies vaccines would be staggered- INCLUDING boosters- from here on out. Just like my children. It took my youngest child 7 years for her vaccines. I should have listened to my gut. Yes, I know, It's a learning curve. it doesn't make any of this better. I spoke to my childhood best friend and she informed me of some things last night, and I'm feeling a bit happier. She's a vet tech currently going through the training to be a vet. It helps that I have a medical fact list, and I read up on shot statistics. If I didn't live in the desert, despite the fact it's legal or not, I would have hesitated with the rabies in the very first place. But, it's very easy here for her to get bitten, even at a walk. I feel awful and very guilty. edited to add, the breeder gave me SO much information that I should have read the notes closer before popping off with it. My friend told me last night that it wasn't 10 in 1, it was all in 1. |

Yes, it's "all in 1" - but what that means is that there is a whole bunch of other unnecessary vaccines in that 1 shot, that's what I'm trying to say/explain.
I'm pretty sure your dog was given the Canine Spectra 10 - which is the 10-in-1 shot you're describing and what your vet said.
That means she got all this:
"Spectra® 10 vaccine is a combination of immunogenic, attenuated strains of Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus Type 2 (CAV-2), Canine Parainfluenza, and Canine Parvovirus Type 2b, propagated in cell line tissue cultures. The diluent contains killed antigens for Canine Coronavirus Vaccine-Leptospira Canicola-Grippotyphosa- Icterohaemorrhagiae-Pomona bacterial extract. The CAV-2 fraction cross-protects against respiratory infection caused by infectious canine hepatitis (CAV-1)."

The vast majority of yorkie owners will never, ever allow the Lepto vaccine (most especially) to be given, period. Nor do most of us do Corona. Those are both NON-core vaccines. Distemper, Parvo, and Rabies are the *only* core vaccines. Lepto should truly only be given when the risk of getting it far far farrrrr outweighs the risk of the vaccine itself.
Sorry it didn't go so well for you w/ this vet. It can take a while to find one you trust...I've been there too.
