I always encourage my new owners to get "Yorkies For Dummies"....it is an excellent book and covers tons of information....

Please get the book and do your research on Yorkies and treatments and shots for yorkies.....some vets will actually be honest and are right up to date on medical treatments of small dogs, yorkies in particular. Some just treat all animals of any species, like they do the next one in the books and there are things you just do NOT do with yorkies....get familiar with specific anesthesia that yorkies can tolerate, and be sure that is what your vet uses.

I let my new babies all go home, completely vaccinated, at 15 weeks old...all they need is rabies, which I instruct new owners to wait until the puppy is 6-8 months old, depending on how large the pup is.....dont buy into that BS that vets split rabies vaccine to adjust for the yorkies smaller size....they can NOT legally do that......

Remember, a vet can not hold your puppy hostage...all they can do is suggest what they think is wrong with a pup, and what they think is the correct, best course of action to take to make it better. it is incumbent on YOU to know what is right and what is wrong, and if you have actually read current information that poses concerns about specific things your vet is advocating for your baby, just say, "No, let me think about this and I will get back to you!" They can not do anything you dont agree to let them do...get their side of what and why and how, go home and do your research, take notes, and then ask your vet about what you have read and make an informed decision....It is a lot of work, but it is necessary in order to be sure you are right on top of what is going on with your baby and what is best for your baby. Never hesitate to tell them you want a second opinion....if that angers your vet, he is insecure and there is a reason for that.
