#2, I think that most people who DO spay and neuter are responsible pet owners and do so when the dog is still a pup/not fully matured. So no matter how big your pup is at time of spay, if it's not fully matured (2 years perhaps) your pup WILL gain weight bc it hasn't finished growing! Your pup neutered at 8 months would have put on more weight regardless if he was neutered or not; he wasn't done growing yet!
