I agree. Don't spay during heat. When I had a Siberian Husky, I had her spayed after I *thought* her first heat was over. (She had stopped bleeding, but I hadn't waited enough time.) I was wrong, and after the spay, the vet cussed me out royally and told me that her reproductive organs were engorged with blood, and there could have been complications from bleeding. The vet should be able to tell the OP how long to wait after the heat before it's completely safe to spay, but if the vet is saying that it doesn't make any difference, it might be time to look for another vet...
