Humping is not always hormonal or a desire to mate. Sometimes it is just a show of dominance or an outlet for built up energy, more like a human bouncing a leg while sitting.
I have 2 neutered boys. Teddy will sometimes hump Max when he is excited. We nicely correct him and he stops. Ann suggested on another thread to give the dog a plush toy to focus on.
