Anything on the body is going to contribute to tangles. I have Yorkie type hair on my head and my ponytail band sort of tangles my hair. Always have hair in the band (the covered kind) when it comes out at night.
Use extra conditioner in the armpits and chest at bath time. Pay close attention to combing those areas. Little tangles hide well there.
The first few days after my boys have a bath, they have no tangles at all. But as the weeks wears on, I have to check their armpits more closely. Between the back legs too.
