WE got Rin at 12 weeks old. She was "crated" in an x-pen with bed, food and potty pad. She learned to potty on the pad within two months. WE then transitioned her to gated into my daughters room with potty pad for the next six months (while we worked). Rin never has an accident in the house, although she does occassionally miss by inches.

We got Tyson when he was 13 weeks old. Rin was already a year old. She basically taught Tyson where to potty. He just followed along behind her and did what she did....easy peasy....until

Ernie came along at 8 weeks. Tyson and Rin were four and five years old. Ernie still hasn't gotten the hang of a potty pad. He's now TWO!!! Plus, he began marking at about 8 months. So at four, Tyson thinks he should mark as well. Oh, HE got SCARY momma and we nipped that real quick. But Ernie....well....he's just special . (And my daughter is moving away with him in a few weeks! )
