When I got my second boy he was 10 months old and completely rogue on the leash. Not as wild as your little one bc he was also very scared of everything. So once he actually acclimated to being outside he did the same thing when walking with my older boy. What worked for me is that I would take them separately. And when I walked alone with the new boy I would keep the leash very tight next to me so he had no choice but to stay close. Obviously I used a harness bc there is a lot of tugging and pulling. Sometimes the walks only lasted 5 mins! But I would assert my authority and once he realized it wasn't going to change he became very good. Once they were able to walk together I always let my older boy have a slight lead over him. And as if a miracle occurred one day they just both got it. It's important to teach the new one how to behave properly on a walk with a leash. It's all new to him so that's prob why he's acting so crazy. New smells and noises and it's very exciting and I'm sure overwhelming. He has to learn to control his excitement. So shorter frequent walks alone without any distraction from the other boy will be a good place to start. Good luck. |
