We have a 3-month old, 3.4 lb. Yorkie, Abigayle, that we just got. We took her to the Vet and had her checked out and felt so lucky she was in "perfect" health ~ until...diarrhea and then passing blood. The vet told us it was probably due to our changing her food. It didn't get better so they did a test for giardia and she tested positive for it!

The vet wanted her on Science Diet (which IMO is not good for animals) and an antibiotic and probiotic. I called the Fromm Company and spoke to their Director of Nutrition and explained the situation. (I love this about this Company ... they are only a phone call away) He told me that the meds they put her on is like a nuclear bomb to her gut and that along w/these meds it is a MUST to replace and heal her little body. His recipe:
1/4 c boiled or broiled chicken without the skin & bones and 1/2 c white or brown organic rice 2x/day. Her body will let us know when to start transitioning her to either kibble 10-15/day or raw (if that's what I want to feed). He said this journey will be alot like the cha cha ... but giardia is the worst parasite for an animal to try and get rid of not to mention the long-term damage it may do. He also told me to get a probiotic and his suggestion(s) are: Probiotic Miracle by Nusentia (which is said is fabulous) or Fortiflora by Purina (which is good and is the only good thing Purina makes).
He also told me he wanted to hear from me every 3-days until we get this under control.
