Unless you're involved in medicine in some way, most people don't even know how antibiotics really work....so how would they know which antiobiotic to even use...? Is the bug they're trying to treat Gram+ or Gram- ? How resistant is it? What is it resistant to? Should you use a 1st-line antibiotic or one of the more aggressive ones...? And on and on and on....

I remember the days when the men in my family would not finish their antibiotics as prescribed. Then they would use the leftover pills the next time they got sick, a couple pills here and there. I finally convinced them that antibiotics don't work that way.
